About EPCs

What is an EPC?

Enlighten Enviro makes sense of energy efficiency. One of our aims is to explain Energy Performance Certificates, the legislation behind them and how you can comply.

Energy Performance Certificates record and display the energy efficiency of a building. The certificate will provide a rating for carbon emissions produced from a property. This ranges from A to G, with A being deemed to be the most efficient.

EPCs are produced using industry-standard methods and assumptions about energy usage. As a result of this, the energy efficiency of one building can be compared with another building of the same type. This enables prospective buyers, tenants, owners, occupiers and purchasers to see information on the energy efficiency and carbon emissions from their building so they can consider energy efficiency and fuel costs as part of their investment.

An EPC is always accompanied by a recommendation report which lists the short, medium and long term gains of implementing the cost effective measures recommended in the report, such as low and zero carbon generating systems which would improve the energy rating and efficiency of the building. The certificate is also accompanied by information about the rating that could be achieved if all the recommendations were implemented.

Enlighten Enviro offers a range of certification services at competitive prices. These are customer-focused, to ensure compliance with all existing legislation in an efficient and timely manner. Please contact us if you require any information or a quote for any of our services.

When undertaking an EPC inspection an assessor will examine the following aspects of a building where they are available:

  • The thermal characteristics of the building
  • Hot water systems
  • Heating and air conditioning systems
  • Ventilation
  • Lighting
  • Building orientation
  • Detailed floor plans
  • Maintanance guides
  • Scaled drawings
